“People called it the Olive Tree House. A large olive tree stood there, and a spotted dog was always lying beneath it.” - from the book

A house that once willingly offered shelter to those who needed hope. But thirty years on, when we faced it again, there was a collapsed wall, an olive tree bowed and broken, and a spotted dog.

“Everything is destined to disappear. But what holds us is always what remains, isn’t that so?” - from the book

In the house, now little more than a ruin, an old notebook is found. Inside is a letter, written by someone who once called the boy a “runny-nosed kid” and still does, even now that he is middle-aged. A letter addressed to Nana Olive, the house’s former owner. Having lost her way, and needing to find something to hold on to, the author began to write. In the end, she shaped a story about a place where life can be endured, and about someone who keeps others living.

A story that holds you up when life is falling apart.
