Bestseller Trends in the Four Biggest Online Bookstores in Korea

Economics and business administration books have been leading sellers in Korea for the second week of March 2021. While books such as The 77 Most Important Questions for Novice Stock Investors and My First Investing Lesson continuously put their names on the bestsellers’ list, House and Tax, published by the National Tax Service, has also joined the list. Produced by the central government with the growing public interest in house-related tax, this book offers a simple guideline about various taxes related to houses, from acquisition to rent, transfer, inheritance, and gift. Also, the government being the book publisher has played a critical role in boosting its popularity.
Meanwhile, books of other genres such as the novel Dollagoot Dream Department Store, children’s book Common Siblings, and English vocabulary book Hackers TOEIC Vocabulary: TOEIC VOCA have been showing a consistent sales performance over the weeks. For the field of politics and society, Moon Jeong-In’s Future Scenario caught the public’s attention with the sub-title “COVID-19, new cold war between the US and China, and Korea’s decision.” This book, written by a former Special Advisor to the president for Foreign Affairs and National Security who had been by the president’s side until 2020, has been drawing people’s interest with much data and unique insight looking into the future after the end of COVID-19.
On the other hand, when we look at the top 5 children’s bestsellers, books that come in series seem to captivate young readers’ minds. For example, series Common Siblings and Seol Min-Seok’s Korean History Adventure are children’s comics so well-known that they can even be found in the integrated list of bestsellers, let alone children’s bestsellers’ list. Also, the series Wanini the Green Lioness is a widely beloved full-length fiction for children featuring the adventure of animal friends. The journey of Wanini the Green Lioness, full of touching and exciting stories, is expected to continue in the future.
