Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello, this is Myung Soojung, the illustrated book author. I published I Like Music for My Eyes (Gloyeon), The Skirt That Spreads to the End of the World (Gloyeon), and Big and Bigger (Gloyeon).

How was your childhood?

I grew up in the countryside. If I hadn’t experienced the city when I got older. Probably I couldn't have made these books. All day in the yard, I think I was very happy just looking at the clouds. Seeing the stars at night. Grandma's and grandfather's love there are memorable.

What kind of person do you think writers are?

Writers spend time in their own space. They spend time alone and isolated. I think it is like a spring deep in the mountains. To the reader, a writer can be spring water. And sometimes, if the spring water is clear like a mirror, it can reflect a person. In that respect, I think an author is a spring.

How did you come up with stories?

I made I Like Music for My Eyes thinking that if a book can comfort me, it can comfort others. I made it with that in mind. I have three nieces and a nephew, Three girls and one boy. When I heard my nephew saying "Is this skirt spreading all the way to the sky?" I thought this child could live in a better world. I wanted all four children to be happy together and help them go forward. I made it with that kind of mindset. I also want many people to know this That’s how I thought.

When do you feel most satisfied?

The joy when I take everything as it is? I have that kind of excitement. I think writing is an area where I am lacking. I study hard and try to create better results. When the writing and the picture harmonize well to create a picture book that feels complete. I feel great excitement then.

Is there anything you are aiming for through your book?

When reading various books by my favorite writers, I think “There's a topic that sticks with you,” or “whether the author intended it or not, his preference is moving towards essential beauty.” I think that is what I am aiming for. I think the ultimate beauty is when readers sympathize with the story after reading the book. I think that moment is the most ultimately beautiful.

What kind of writer would you like to be in the future?

I want to be a person who can make up for their shortcomings and still has the same mindset as when I made my first book. So, I want to become a writer who can communicate a little better with my readers.

Moon, is your skirt spread to the end of the world?
No, but it's a pretty good day.

On a clear day, as the moon shines brightly as if a moon’s skirt is unfolding I hope you are also happy.
