Korean Translator   Minjeong Jeong   2024.02.19   Profile   She pursued Latin American Literature at Korea University, completed her translation studies at the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, and also finished her PhD coursework in the same field at Korea University. She earned the Daesan Literary Award for her Spanish translation of Byung Mo Koo’s La panadería encantada, a collaborative effort with Irma Zyanya Gil Yáñez. Additionally, she co-translated Hyejin Kim’s Sobre mi hija for publication in Argentina and Spain. Currently, she serves as a Spanish Lecturer at Dongguk University. Korean Translator   Hyeon Jeong Lee   2024.01.02   PROFILE   Hyeon Jeong Lee (she/her) is a freelance translator based in Champaign, Illinois, USA. She studied English Literature at Seoul National University and received her PhD in English at the University at Buffalo, USA. She was awarded a translation grant from the Literature Translation Institute of Korea for her English translation of Uhye Song’s White Bird, which she co-translated with Cynthia M. Childs. As this sort of content increases and more forms of leisure appear, concerns over people reading fewer books are also growing. According to statistics, the reading rate of South Korean adults over the age of 19 (reading rate of paper books that are not textbooks, educational material, magazines or comic books) stood at 86.8 percent in 1994 only to plummet to 59.9 percent in 2017 (the rate was 62.3 percent when e-books were accounted for).
