As I run a publishing company in South Korea, I visit bookstores and libraries in Germany often in search of good ideas for publications. Naturally, I found myself seeking out South Korean books translated into German, and I found Han Kang's The Vegetarian (Changbi) and Jeong You-jeong's Seven Years of Darkness (Eunhaengnamu). The situation has shifted from before, when South Korean original novels would find demand after a film or television adaptation gained in popularity or vice versa. South Korea's October Bestsellers Aggregate data as of the third week of September   2017.10.10   The prolonged rule of bestsellers     Young-ha Kim's Memoir of a Murderer has topped the bestseller list for two consecutive weeks. As the film adaptation of the novel gains momentum, interest in the original novel has spiked.
