South Korea's Imprint System in Publishing 2019.10.07 Most well-known South Korean publishers have several imprints (independent brands under the same publishing house). This number can go up to double-digits for large publishing houses, while smaller publishers' number of imprints is usually in the single-digit range. Imprints are a way for publishers to expand their publishing range as well as the size of their business and improve profits. Around 2005, the number of imprints grew rapidly in South Korea, and this trend was led by Woongjin Thinkbig, which managed more than 30 imprints at one point. They had a publishing system where they would recruit well-known people from the industry, like directors or editors, give them high wages and place them in charge of imprints. South Korea's Standard Publishing Contracts and Adaptation Rights 2019.08.05 The establishment of standard contracts by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Following the 'Cloud Bread Incident1)' of 2014, authorities in South Korea began mulling over fundamental issues regarding the working conditions of South Korean content creators. After this incident, the culture ministry created and distributed seven standard contracts for publishing after discussions with rights holders and publishers. The Korean word 'jeojakgwon' comes from the English word 'copyright'. After the world's first copyright law was established in 1809 in the U.K., this word has been used allacross the globe. To directly define this word, it refers to the right to copy or make duplicates of something. Korean Translator Minjeong Jeong 2024.02.19 Profile She pursued Latin American Literature at Korea University, completed her translation studies at the Literature Translation Institute of Korea, and also finished her PhD coursework in the same field at Korea University. She earned the Daesan Literary Award for her Spanish translation of Byung Mo Koo’s La panader?a encantada, a collaborative effort with Irma Zyanya Gil Y??ez.
