Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello, my name is So-yeon Park. I write and offer lectures for people who work. I have written various books including High Performers Know How to Stay Simple: Working Habits of Top Performers (GILBUT Publishers) and I am also the CEO of Mentor Grace.
Why did you become a writer?
I came to a turning point and asked myself whether I would like to move forward after 12 years of working for a company. My answer to the question previously would have been to stay at work without question, but when I was given the choice, I started to feel that I didn't want to be doing this for the next 5, 10, 20 years. So I wondered what kind of business I would be able to start without any capital, and then I thought that writing something and giving lectures based on the content would work out fairly well - that is why I became a writer.
Do you have a specific hobby you currently enjoy?
I might sound like a boring person if I put it this way, but writing is my hobby at the moment. Until now, most of my work has involved self-development, economics, and business management, but right now I am writing a novel. It is a completely different type of writing. I feel like I can build on my writing skills and that is why I am trying out this new genre. I also have stories that I have been keeping in my mind and have been wanting to write about. I would like to become a writer who has a wide range and who can grow continuously, and that is why I started writing a novel.
Why are you fond of classics?
The reason behind my love of classics is that it considerably decreases the resources required for finding a good book. I mean there are so many books, and it is difficult for us to figure out which of them are good or bad. That is why we resort to bestseller lists or those that are recommended by other people. In the case of classics, these are works that already have positive reviews established by many people, which means a lower chance of failure.

Is there something you would like to say to those who work?
What I would like to tell people who work is that I really do support them. It is an amazing thing when someone is capable of fending for themselves. Those who are financially capable of providing good things for those who they love. It is an absolutely amazing thing when someone is able to fend for himself or herself despite the vicissitudes of life. That is why I want them to grow more in their field and not let other people or the company sway them. I hope they grow the strength to work as they stand firmly on the ground.
What is your plan for the future?
For the first half of the year I have a book of short stories that I have been working on and my goal is to finish this and publish it. For the latter half of the year I am planning to publish my next book, and I have been researching very hard since I can’t write about the same story. This is why I would like to focus on writing on the topic of how senior leaders in companies can manage tasks and projects better. That is my goal for the latter half of the year.
So-yeon Park’s One Line Reading I love this line a lot. I think the line conveys my attitude of deciding to start writing for the working population. Although we do identify ourselves as a part of the working population, we don't necessarily have to become a corporate type of person. Nonetheless, the ordinary skills possessed by each one of us provide help to creating a better world for others. So I hope we can all develop our skills a bit more.
