Good news for international publishers planning to translate and publish Korean books! - Translation and Publication Support Projects in Korea

 

Various institutions in Korea have been running translation and publication projects to support international publishers planning to publish Korean books with an aim to promote Korean books to overseas markets.

 

LTI provide grants for translation and publication of Korean books to extend the global reach of Korean literature.
Eligible Applicants: Overseas publishers that have acquired the rights to Korean literary, humanities, or social science books, and are planning to translate and publish them in a foreign language
Application Schedule: Four times in 2023 (applications are accepted all year round, but the announcement dates differ by each deadline)
Amount of Grant: Differs based on genre and language
Selection Criteria: Demand for the chosen work in the target market, thoroughness of the publication and marketing plans, and the reputation and level of credibility of the publisher in the local market

 

Daesan Foundation aim to globalize Korean literature and foster cultural exchange by spreading Korean literary works around the world.
Accepted Language: Any language
Accepted Works: Korean literary works for translation (works written in the language that has already signed a translation contract cannot be submitted)
Grants: Differs by language and category (translation, research, publication)
Qualification: Translation - Translators with an excellent understanding of Korean literature, Research - Overseas professors, researchers, students, translators, and institutions, Publication - Individuals or publishers preparing to publish translated works

 

KPIPA set the foundation for the Hallyu (Korean Wave) of Korean publications by supporting their overseas publication.
Qualification: Overseas publishers that have imported Korean publication copyrights
Overview: Publication grants will be provided partially to overseas publishers that have published or are planning to publish Korean publishing content
Scope of Selection: Around 40 titles will be selected and receive grants for publication (differs by region)
Selection Criteria: Qualitative superiority of the book, appropriateness for overseas markets, and the capability of the publisher
