Best seller Trends in the Four Biggest Online Bookstores in Korea

If we look at the best sellers’ list for the second week of October, we can see books that have been greatly loved by readers have returned with a new look. For example, the Consumer Trend Center (CTC) at Seoul National University, which reads and analyzes current flows and trends in the world, came back with a new book, Trend Korea 2023. Naturally, it would be great to prepare for the new year with knowledge about the upcoming trends foreseen by Trend Korea 2023. Also, “Decision to Leave,” which set a mega-hit record with its movie and the screenplay, returned with Decision to Leave: Storyboard Book. The book is a must-read for those who want a deeper understanding of the story and the production process of “Decision to Leave,” which provided an unforgettable experience for its audience with various plot devices operating perfectly in the movie.
Meanwhile, another author that tells the stories of Korea appeared, following Pachinko, which was largely loved for its story unique to Koreans. Kim Joo-Hye, Beasts of a Little Land, is a Korean-American novelist who is greatly interested in Korean history as she was influenced by her grandfather, who participated in the independence movement. So, against this backdrop, Kim wrote stories with the desire to encourage the world to learn about Korean history. Talking about what it is to be a human being – a universal issue – going beyond discussing stories of Koreans, the book Beasts of a Little Land will find answers to what attitude humanity should have in the face of destruction, war, and famine.
For humanities books, Mind Laundry ranked first. The book was published in 2013, but it has come under the spotlight after being introduced on ENA’s TV program called “Suspicious Bookstore East West South Book (수상한 책방 동서남Book).” The book helps readers overcome negative feelings provoked by fear, anger, and jealousy, while introducing oriental psychological healing methods. Also, Reading Nietzsche in My 40s offers tips to love your life entering the 40s, starting from Nietzsche’s question, “How am I going to love my life?” Meanwhile, A Fairly Good Attitude is a book written by the documentary director of “3-Day Documentary (aired on KBS)” and “You Quiz on the Block.” It is a compilation of stories he heard from the many people he met during the programs. It provides lessons he learned from many different corners of life.
