Best seller Trends in the Four Biggest Online Bookstores in Korea

Korean readers’ enthusiasm for learning in the new year was apparent as several books for learning a foreign language made it onto the overall best seller list for the 3rd week of February 2024. The 4th place book, EBS English for Beginners Vol. 1 (2024), is a book that helps you build your confidence to listen and speak English anytime, anywhere, by just studying 30 minutes a day. As it was published by EBS, the Korean Educational Broadcasting System, readers commented that it was helpful in learning English. The 5th place book, The 100-Day Miracle of English Transcription, includes healing messages in English that can change your life by simply transcribing them. Not only does it have space for you to transcribe, but it also provides free MP3 files recorded by native speakers to assist you - it is double the effect!
While many other books in various areas made the best seller list, March for You made the top 10 even though it was still on pre-sale, indicating readers’ expectations for the book. It is a photo essay by actor Park Seo-Ham, who is about to celebrate his 8th year of acting, that captures his daily life and thoughts, along with photos he has taken with his film camera, a favorite hobby of his. A couple of Korean novels made the top five in the fiction category for the 3rd week of February. Marigold Mind Photo Studio, the follow-up to Marigold Mind Laundry (Book Romance), which made a mark in the history of Korean fiction, came in 2nd place. It is filled with stories that everyone can relate to, with episodes that are more touching and comforting than the previous volume. In 5th place was Contradictions, a book that is constantly making a comeback, even though it was first published in 1998. YouTubers have deemed it a “book of life,” and young readers continue to purchase it, as word-of-mouth has shown that the story is still relevant today.
